Hello!

My name is Iye and I am a third year PhD student in sociology at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. I hail from Osogbo, Nigeria and grew up for most of my childhood in Ibadan, Nigeria. My research focuses on youth employment in Africa. For my PhD, I specifically look at the impact of social networks such as family networks, friendship networks, business-related associations on the entrance of young people into self-employment and their working lives. When I am not writing up my PhD, I love to read, write fiction, cook, travel to new places, and spend time with family and friends.

In this blog, I hope to share lessons I have learnt on my research journey so far as a PhD student and also from other research projects I have been involved in as an undergraduate and as a Master’s student. The blog posts on conducting research should be helpful to anyone doing a research project at any level. In this blog, I will also share about my research on youth employment in Africa and other thoughts and comments I have on the subject.

Thanks for joining me on this journey!
